5 tips for decorating a small rental apartment

The magic transformation of a small spaces is one of my guilty pleasure.You take a space that is bare and you give it a personality far beyond what people think it could be, see that is pure magic.

As much as i love this magic, it is a frustration in itself, because of the underlying rules that come with it;Limited furniture, color, design and most important minimizing of everything.

Majority of affordable apartments in Nairobi are small, so we are in this boat together. But that doesn't mean we can't work around it and give our space a persona 🙂.



So our first tool of the day is

• Curtains

This is one of the Wow! moments that immediately pop up as soon as you make the change. The curtain makes the room look bigger and spacious. But there is a catch, make sure your curtain bars are higher towards the ceiling than the windows  also choose a brighter color curtains, that would reflect better light into your space.

•  Area Rugs

Area rugs/ carpets are definitely a charmer, they warm up your living room, kitchen area and bedroom. But there are limits, Choose the perfect fit for the area you want to place the carpet/rug not too big and not too small, make sure you measure the area before going shopping. Carpets and curtains are cousins, so the color pattern should relate in terms of  design and color block.

• Colorful Furniture

Rental apartments have restriction and consequences when it comes to painting on the walls, so since we can't go crazy with colored walls we can be a little bit creative and get colorful furniture, paint different storage areas with warm colors that will brighten up your room.

• Mirror Mirror

Mirrors located strategically is known to make a small space appear larger and lighter.Get a mirror with a beautiful craft around it,don't go basic be extra because your space is special.

• Creative Storage

 Small apartments means small space to work with, but as usual big creativity comes in hand. Creating  a storage system that works for your size apartment is very important because it makes it easy to store more with less space and makes your space organised.
